NHKが10月18日午後9時に放送する特別番組「アジア巨大遺跡」で、ミャンマーのバガン遺跡を取り上げる。
11世紀から13世紀にかけて栄えた、ミャンマー最初の王朝「バガン王朝」が築いたもので、イラワジ川中流域の約40平方キロにわたって広がっている。アンコール・ワット、ボロブドゥールとともに、世界三大仏教遺跡として知られているが、未だに世界遺産に登録されていない。
広大な平原から顔を出す数千の仏塔は、一見の価値ありだ。スライドショーをご覧あれ。
