シリア内戦開始から3年、バンクシーの「赤い風船」で反戦キャンペーン拡散

2014年3月15日で勃発から3年を迎えたシリア内戦に反対するキャンペーンが、ネットや世界で広がっている。クリスティアーノ・ロナウドやメリンダ・ゲイツも参加しているこの運動のモチーフに使われているのは、アーティスト・バンスキーの「赤い風船に手を伸ばす女の子」だ。

2014年3月15日で勃発から3年を迎えたシリア内戦−−。落書きアーティスト・バンクシーの「赤い風船」をモチーフにした反戦キャンペーンが、ネットや世界で広がっている。

この活動は、人権保護団体のアムネスティ・インターナショナルや、オックスファム・インターナショナル、国境なき記者団などが中心になって始めたもので、「WithSyria(シリアと共に)」という合い言葉のもと、平和を願うたくさんの人々が参加している。

■希望の「赤い風船」

キャンペーンのモチーフに使われているのは、世界中の都市に風刺的なグラフィティ(落書き)を描くことで知られているイギリス人アーティスト・バンクシーの代表的な作品、「赤い風船に手を伸ばす少女」。バンクシーは今回のキャンペーンのために、この作品をシリアの少女をイメージして新たに描き直した。

現在、バンクシーの公式サイトには、この作品と共に、次のようなメッセージが掲げられている。

2011年3月6日、シリアのダルアーの街で15人の子供たちが、逮捕された。彼らの罪状は、反体制的なグラフィティ(落書き)を描いたこと。子供たちは、逮捕されたのち、拷問された。逮捕に反対して勃発した市民運動は、国全体を巻き込む暴力へつながり、やがて、930万人もの人々の家や生活を奪う内戦へと発展した。

また、キャンペーンの公式サイトには、シリア内戦への反対を表明するメッセージと共に、バンクシーのモチーフに込められた想いが綴られている。

今世界中の人々が、内戦に苦しんでいるシリアの人々と共に、この困難に立ち向かう意志を表明している。私たちは、世界中のリーダーたちに告げる:さらなる流血と苦しみの1年をシリアの人々に強いるな、と。


また、バンクシーの代表作である「赤い風船に手を伸ばす少女」は、希望の象徴だ。赤い風船は、少女を空高く持ち上げ、焼けこげた建物や、銃弾の跡がのこる壁などのカオスから彼女を連れ去る。

この文章で描写されたように、少女が赤い風船に連れられて地上の惨禍から飛び立つ様子を描いたアニメーションも掲載されている。

■クリスティアーノ・ロナウド選手なども参加

さらに、ネット上では「#WithSyria」のハッシュタグに、バンクシーのモチーフに倣って、赤い風船の写真を投稿する運動が広がっている。クリスティアーノ・ロナウド選手やメリンダ・ゲイツなどのセレブも参加しており、世界的なムーブメントとなりつつある。

オックスファムの調べによると、シリアの内戦は10万人以上の死者と、220万人以上の難民を出している。3年目を迎えた今年、平和を求める声は一層強くなっている。
