ビートルズの未発表音源が12月17日、50年の時を経て、一斉発売されることがわかった。音楽配信サイトで販売される。12月13日にロイターが報じたという。

ビートルズの曲で発売されないまま50年近く経過していた録音作品が17日、新たに一斉販売される。英レコード会社アップルは理由を明らかにしていないが、著作権の延長が狙いとみられる。

今回発売されるのは、主に1963年に録音された59曲。レコード会社アップルは、発売の理由を明確にしていないが、BBCは、著作権保護期間の延長が狙いだと報じていている。1963年に発表した曲は、今年中に発表されない場合、保護期間が延長されないことになっていた。

英BBCは「著作権の延長が狙いであることは明白」としている。欧州連合(EU)は今年から、音楽著作権の保護期間を録音後50年から70年に延長したが、50年経過しても発表されていない録音は延長の対象外となるためだ。

ビートルズが、1962年に発表したシングルは、昨年著作権が切れ、EUでは自由にコピーできる状態となっている。

ビートルズが1962年10月に発表したデビューシングル「ラヴ・ミー・ドゥ」(B面は「P.S.アイ・ラヴ・ユー」)は昨年でリリースから50年がたち、新法の発効前だったため、著作権が切れ、EU圏では誰でも自由にコピー、再利用できる状態になっている。
