ある友人が夜中に、パリのニュースをチェックするよう言ってきた。そのときは、愛する街・パリの地図を開いて、テロリストに攻撃された場所を確認するとは思ってもみなかった。地図を拡大していくと、そのうちの1カ所は、ちょうど2013年に私が滞在した場所と同じ大通り沿いにあった。

新聞を読むたびに、死亡者の数も増えていった。恐ろしくなった。非人道的行為だ。完全に絶望だった。2015年は、テロリストがレバノンとフランスで加えた攻撃で終えようとしている。2つはほぼ同時に、同じ目的で、狂ったテロリストたちが増悪と恐怖と死をあたり構わず撒き散らしたテロだった。

今朝、目覚めた私の目に飛び込んできたのは、2つの破壊された街の記事だった。パリにいる私の友人は、昨日はただ、ベイルートで何が起きていたか聞いてきただけだったが、今はテロの渦中にある。2人の首都は破壊され傷つけられた。私たちにとってよくあるニュースだが、彼らにとっては外国のニュースだった。

今日、パリでは128人の罪のない市民がこの世を去った。今週初めには、45人のベイルートの市民が亡くなっている。死者の合計数は増え続けているが、我々は何も学んでいないようだ。

全ての混乱と悲劇の中で、一つの考えが私の頭の中から消えずにいた。悲しいことに、何度も繰り返される。「自分たちには関係ない」

11月12日にベイルートの路上で人々が粉々に吹き飛ばされた時の新聞の見出しは、「ヒズボラの拠点が爆発」だった。テロがはびこる都会の人口密集地の政治的背景について言いたげだった。

11月12日、ベイルートの路上で私の身近な人々が死んだ時、世界の指導者たちが非難の声を上げることはなかった。レバノンの人々を追悼する声明もなかった。罪のない人々に唯一過失があるとすれば、いるべき時間と場所を誤ったことだが、そんな人々が死んではならなかったとか、家族がバラバラになってはならなかったとか、組織は政治的思想と結びついてはならないとか、怒りが世界に広がることはなかった。

アメリカのオバマ大統領は、レバノンの人々の死が人道に対する罪だという声明を発表していない。結局、人道とは主観的な言葉なのだろうか。

その代わり起きたことは、アメリカの上院議員が、人が死に、私の国の首都が粉々に破壊され、無実の人々が命を失い、老若男女あるゆる種類の人々が犠牲になったことを歓喜しただけだった。

我々の望みはただ、ヒズボラと「イスラム国」(IS)がこれからも爆撃し合うことだ。

ヒズボラはテロ組織であり、一人残らず地上から消えるべきだ。

アメリカの平和=ヒズボラとISのメンバーを殺すこと。

私はヒズボラやISへの攻撃はすべて賛成する。それは今日レバノンで起きた、ヒズボラへの攻撃も含まれる。

私の身近な人たちが死んだ時、国旗の色で建物を照らす国はなかった。些細なことかもしれないが、フェイスブックも私の知人の安否をいちいち教えてくれなかった。

私の身近な人たちが死んだ時、世界の人々が喪に服すことはなかった。その死は単に国際ニュースと無関係の小さな断片でしかなく、世界の遠い場所で起きた出来事でしかない。

そして、私もそれを受け入れている。ここ数年で、世界から関心を持たれない1人であることを受け入れるようになった。それを受け入れ、その思いと共に生きている。

これから先、世界中でより一層、イスラムヘイト(嫌悪)が高まるだろう。過激派には宗教などなく、ISのメンバーは真のイスラム教徒ではないという記事が書かれるだろう。確かに少しでもモラルがあればあんなことはしないだろう。ISはイスラムヘイトへの反発をあおろうとしている。反発を利用して、動揺する人々の心に「見ろよ、お前たちを嫌っているぞ」と呼びかけるためだ。

それに立ち向かうことができる人はほとんどいない。

遠からずヨーロッパで、「11月13日にパリで起きた出来事は、押し寄せる難民が原因だ」と非難の声がわき上がるだろう。そして各国はその反発に対処しようとするだろう。ヨーロッパの人々に知ってほしい。11月13日にパリで起きたことは、難民にとってこの2年間、毎晩起きている日常だったのだ。しかしヨーロッパが眠れない夜を過ごしたのは唯一、全世界がフランス国旗の色でライトアップした時だけだ。

パリのテロ攻撃に対する反応でもっと恐ろしいことは、アラブやレバノンの人に、自分の国で昨日、あるいは過去に起きたことより、パリで起きたことを悲しむ人がいたことだ。私の身近な人でさえも、自分たちはフランス人より重要ではない、自分たちの命の価値はフランス人より低い、少数とはいえ、自分たちの死には追悼の価値も、祈りの価値もないと感じる人がいた。

おそらく、レバノン人口の全体的な傾向から言っても、パリに行く人の方がDahyeh(注:テロの起きたベイルートの地域)に行く人より多いだろうし、関心もパリのほうが高いことは分かる。しかし、パリのテロで激しいショックを受けた私の多くの知人は、自分たちが住む場所から15分のところで起きたことにも、道で出会ったかも知れない人々に関心をもつこともない。

ベイルートもパリと同じくらい重要だ、フェイスブックに「安否確認」ボタンを追加して毎日使えるよう求め、自分たちにも関心を持ってほしいと、世界に訴えることはできる。しかし実際のところ、そうしようとはしない。私たちは「慣れ」と呼んでいるが、本当はそんなものではない。「ニューノーマル(新しい秩序)」と呼んでいるが、それが秩序ならそんな秩序はいらない。

アラブの人々の命などどうでもいい世界で、アラブの人々は最前線に立ち続ける。
