ビットコイン――「世界通貨の夢」と「信用の原点」

仮想通貨「ビットコイン」取引所マウント・ゴックス破綻のニュースが世間を騒がせていますが、そもそも「なんでビットコインが必要なの?」「どんないいことがあるの?」という点について、よく知られてなかったのではないでしょうか。(私はわかってませんでした^^;)

仮想通貨「ビットコイン」取引所マウント・ゴックス破綻のニュースが世間を騒がせていますが、そもそも「なんでビットコインが必要なの?」「どんないいことがあるの?」という点について、よく知られてなかったのではないでしょうか。(私はわかってませんでした^^;)

いろいろ調べて遅まきながら腑に落ち、同時にそれはグローバル経済共通の課題を抱えているのではと感じたので、一言見解を書いておこうと考えた次第です。

■ ビットコインは「失っては惜しい存在」なのか?

マウント・ゴックスがサイバー攻撃を受け、3.7億円相当のビットコインを失い破綻したというニュースを読み、ネットセキュリティ・コンサルタントとしての「昔取った杵柄」がうずいていろいろ調べ始めたのですが、この記事を読んで、想像を絶するほどお粗末な運営実態が原因だったとわかりました。

ひどすぎます。まともに見解を書く気もなくなるくらいです。

ネットセキュリティ的にどう対処していくかはもういいやと思ってしまったのですが、私が腑に落ちてなかったのは、「そもそも、なんでビットコインが必要なの?」「ビットコインを使うとどういういいことがあるの?」という根本的な点でした。

つまり、この事件によってビットコインは信用を大きく損ねることが懸念されますが、はたしてビットコインとは「失っては惜しい存在」なのかどうかがよくわからなかった、ということです。

使用感については、この記事がわかりやすかったです。

ふーん。決済が早くて手数料が安いから便利よ、と。

その程度だったら、別になくてもええんちゃんうかなぁ...と思ったのですが。

この記事を読んで、ようやくビットコインの存在意義が腑に落ちたのです。

1年以上前のフォーブスの記事を翻訳して掲載しています。

念のため、フォーブスの元記事も紹介しておきます。

元記事のタイトル直訳が「ビットコインが通貨専制政治を防ぐ」ですね。

なるほどそういうことか、とようやくわかったわけです。

ビットコインは、各国の事情や国家間の力関係に左右されない「世界通貨」あるいは「全世界共通商品券」を志向しているのかと。

国の事情でいきなり為替変動したり高い手数料取られたりしないお金で取引できたらステキやん?ということかと。

それで、日本で流行らなかった理由もわかりました。日本の一般市民は、円さえあれば何も困らないからです。

「なんでビットコインが必要なの?」ということが理解できない時点で、私が「どローカル」な人間だということなんでしょうね^^;

■「信用の原点」、それは人間の生活

ビットコイン開発者が「国家支配に対抗する革命思想」を持っているかどうかはわかりませんが、グローバル経済が進展する中で「国家ウゼェ」と感じる人が出てくることは理解できます。

しかし、現在のビットコインシステムには「世界通貨」はまかせられないと私は感じます。

国家に依らない通貨を作るというなら、その価値は誰が担保するのか。

「最終的には既存通貨に現金化できるから担保されている」のであれば、それはまやかしの革命です。

国家の信用にタダ乗りしてるにすぎません。

そしてもうひとつ。

このフォーブスの記事からは「人々のリアルな生活」が見えません。

田んぼで稲を育てる。海で魚を採る。木や石を切り出して家を建てる。綿を育てて服を作る。

そのような「人間の生活」を支えるための「生産」こそが信用の原点です。

そうした生産は本質的にローカルな営みであって、そのローカルな営みの中で信用されているのが既存通貨なんだと、私は思っています。

何に担保されているかも怪しい仮想通貨が、リアルに生きている人間の営みを支えられるのでしょうか?

...まあ、この疑念はビットコインに限った話ではなく、グローバル経済全般に言えるんですけどね。

ミヒャエル・エンデは、「人々が日常生活の中で使うお金と、投資・投機のために使用するお金を完全に分離すべきだ」と語りました。

現実的には困難ですが、そう言いたくなる気持ちはわかります。

■ それでも意義はなくはない

では、ビットコインはもうこれでオシマイにしたほうがいいのでしょうか?

実はそうではない部分もあります。

世の中には、ビットコインよりも信用がない既存通貨というものもあるからです。

2009年に発行が停止されたジンバブエ・ドルが有名です。

2009年1月、非公式ながらインフレ率は年率6.5×10108%であると報じた。この数字は24.7時間ごとに価格が2倍になっている計算である。

1日で価格が2倍!

こんな超絶インフレでは、月1回の給料では到底生活できません。

こういうときにビットコインで給料がもらえたら、どんなにありがたいことでしょう。

世界通貨を志向するなら、こういう出番で使ってもらえるよう、基軸通貨ドル並みとは言わずとも、一定の信用を持たなければなりません。

しかし、取引所1ヶ所がザル管理をしているだけで信用不安になるようでは、厳しいですねぇ。

このままビットコインが生き残るのか。次世代型仮想通貨が登場するのか。
