サッカーのワールドカップブラジル大会の3位決定戦が7月12日（日本時間13日）に行われ、オランダがブラジルを3―0で下した。準決勝で1―7とドイツに歴史的な大敗をしたブラジルだったが、この日も精細を欠き、無得点に終わった。
オランダは前半3分、FWロッベンの突破で反則を誘いPKを獲得すると、FWファンペルシーがゴールを決めて先制。さらに17分にもMFブリントがゴールして、序盤で主導権を握った。試合終了間際にはMFワイナルドゥムが3点目を決めた。
ブラジルは準々決勝のコロンビア戦でエースのネイマールが骨折して、大会に出場できなくなった。ネイマールはベンチに入り、戦況を見守っていたが、欠場の穴は大きかった。ブラジルの主将、チアゴシウバ選手は「国民に謝りたい」と話したとNHKニュースが伝えている。
４位に終わったブラジルのキャプテン、チアゴシウバ選手は「こんな結果になるとは思っていなかった。これがサッカーというものだが国民に謝りたい。優勝を夢見ていたが、こういう形で終わり、われわれは失望しているし、とても悲しい」と力なく話しました。
