カナダ国会内で発砲 近くの記念碑でも 兵士撃たれ負傷

22日午前10時(日本時間同日午後11時)ごろ、カナダの首都オタワの国会議事堂内で発砲事件があった。国会は開会中だったが、カナダ政府によるとハーパー首相は無事で、国会周辺から避難したという。また、直前には近くにある国立戦争記念碑でも発砲があり、AP通信によると護衛していた兵士1人が撃たれて負傷した。その後、銃を持った男が国会に向かって走る姿が目撃されていた。

カナダのグローブ・アンド・メール紙によると、議事堂内にいた記者たちは、警察から床に伏せて避難するよう命じられた。同紙の国会担当記者はツイッターで「数十発の銃声が聞こえ、廊下は火薬の臭いが漂っている」と発信した。ロイター通信は近くにいた目撃者の話として、「黒い服を着た男が顔を布で覆い、銃を持って国会の方向に走っていくのを見た」と伝えている。

発砲した容疑者が死亡したとの情報もあるが、確認されていない。警察は、住民に対してオタワ中心部に近づかないように求めるとともに、建物の窓から離れるよう呼びかけている。

カナダ国会は8日、過激派組織「イスラム国」に対する空爆に参加することを賛成多数で承認した。また、カナダのメディアによると、17日には国内でテロの可能性が高まっているとして、警戒レベルを「低」から「中」に上げていた。カナダ政府は具体的な脅威があったわけではなく、「イスラム国」やアルカイダ関連の組織からの情報発信に基づき、テロが起きうると判断した、と説明していた。

一方、20日にはモントリオール近郊で2人の兵士が車ではねられ、1人が死亡する事件が起きている。車を運転していた男(25)は警察に射殺されたが、過激なイスラム思想を抱いているとして警察が監視対象にしていたこともあり、テロ事件の可能性が高いとして捜査が続いている。(ニューヨーク=中井大助)
