あるブロガーが、恐ろしい炭パック体験をした。「美を追求する」ということが一体どんな結末をもたらすのか、身をもって体験したようだ。
YouTubeで「Tee Cee Videos」チャンネルを運営するティフさんが撮影した、ネットで買った炭パックをはがそうとする動画を見ていると、見ている方も顔をしかめてしまう。
動画中で、パックをはがす前にティフさんは、自分のFacebookタイムライン上で毛穴をきれいにする広告を見つけ、数週間じっくり考え思い切ってやってみたと説明する。
まさにその瞬間がやってきたのだが、彼女は実際にやってみる準備ができず、こう告白する。「これをはがすのが本当に怖くてゆっくりやってみようとしてるの。正直言ってやりたくない」
彼女が怖がるのももっともだ。ティフさんがパックをはがそうとした時、（彼女のパートナーからわずかばかりの応援を受けて）マスクは皮膚と毛と一緒にはがれそうになったのだ。
見てるだけでもかなり痛い。
色々試した後、彼女は視聴者にこう語りかける。「これがボトックスか何かをしてる時の気分かしら」
「よく考えたほうがいいかも。これはきつい。きつすぎる」
彼女はやっとのことでパックを取った。ちなみに、驚いたことに彼女はその商品をすぐにゴミ箱には捨てなかった。
美しくなるために痛みに耐えているのはティフさんだけではない。世の中では今日も、美のための涙ぐましい努力があちこちで行なわれている。
