韓国・朴槿恵大統領の人事や国政・外交政策などに介入していた疑惑が指摘され、疑惑浮上後に海外に潜伏していた朴氏の知人女性・崔順実(チェ・スンシル)氏が10月30日朝、韓国に帰国した。ロンドン・ヒースロー空港からブリティッシュ・エアウェイズの飛行機に乗り、30日の午前7時35分、仁川空港に到着した。

聯合ニュースによると、崔氏はこの日、代理人のイ・ギョンジェ弁護士を通じて自身の立場を表明した。弁護士は、記者らに対し「崔氏は検察の捜査に応じるために帰国した」として「ただ、捜査担当者には、崔氏の健康状態がよくなく、長時間の旅行や時差などで非常に疲れているので、1日程度、体を休める時間的余裕を要請した」と述べた。

また「(崔氏が)自身のせいで国民の皆様に挫折感と虚脱感を抱かせていることに対し、深く謝罪する心情を表明している」として「(演説文の修正疑惑などについては)法的な部分については、私が答えるのは適切でない。弁護人として申し上げたいのは(崔氏を)呼んで、白日の下で捜査すればよい」と答えた。

マネートゥデイは「ドイツにいたのに、なぜ、ロンドンから帰国したのか」という質問に対し、弁護士が「現地でもメディアの取材攻勢がひどすぎて、ドイツからロンドンを経由して帰国しただけで、逃げようとしていたわけではない」と答えたと伝えた。

この日、娘のチョン・ユラ氏は、一緒に帰国しなかったことも分かった。
