米連邦破産裁判所は3日、財政破綻したデトロイト市(ミシガン州)に連邦破産法9条の適用を認める判断を下した。また年金の削減も承認した。

スティーブン・ローズ判事はデトロイト市が支払い不能で破産法の適用を受ける資格があると指摘した。

デトロイト市は破産法9条の適用を受ける地方自治体としては過去最大規模となる。

同市の非常時管理責任者ケビン・オー氏は破産法の適用が財政の安定回復を目指す上で最善策と主張していた。

ローズ判事はまたデトロイト市の財政再建に向けた取り組みの一環として年金の削減も認めた。
