中国国営の新華社通信が8月25日、「昭和天皇が侵略戦争の張本人だった」と主張し、皇位を継承した天皇陛下が謝罪すべきとする記事を配信した。これに対して菅義偉官房長官は28日の記者会見で、「天皇陛下に対する礼を著しく失している」と批判した。
記事内容について、SankeiBizは次の通り報じている。
中国はこれまで安倍晋三首相ら日本の政治家に対し、歴史問題について反省や謝罪を求めることはあったが、天皇陛下に対し直接、謝罪を求めることは異例だ。
記事は、「昭和天皇は中国への侵略戦争と太平洋戦争を発動し、指揮した」と強調した上で、「昭和天皇は亡くなるまで被害国とその国民に謝罪を表明したことがなかった。その皇位継承者は、謝罪で雪解けを、悔いることで信頼を手に入れなければならない」と主張している。

この記事は、中国紙・光明日報が26日付で掲載した。
これを受けて、菅官房長官は会見で「改善基調にある日中関係にも水を差しかねず、全く好ましくない」と不快感を示した。また岸田文雄外相も28日、閣議後の記者会見で「礼を著しく失しており、これまで表明されてきた中国側の立場とも相いれないものだ」と語った。
日本政府は27日、外務省局長と在北京大使館の公使がそれぞれ中国側に電話で抗議している。
