「海にそびえたった崖の上に湖がある」と、世界中で話題になっている光景がある。
まるでベルギーのシュルレアリズムの画家、ルネ・マグリットの「ピレネーの城」のような矛盾した構図。
しかし、これはCGではない。
ノルウェーとアイスランドの中間に浮かぶ絶海の孤島「フェロー諸島」に実在する風景だ。
■一体、どういうこと？
ヴェガー島にあるソルヴァグスヴァテン湖。実は水面の高さは、海抜40mしかない。
切り立った崖に囲まれているため、崖側から湖を見ると、まるで崖の上にあるように見えるのだ。

■フェロー諸島とは？
デンマーク大使館によると、フェロー諸島は18の島からなる群島。デンマーク領だが、独自の議会を持つ自治領となっている。
人口約5万人で、ヴァイキングの伝統を色濃く残しているという。
