2017年のF1開幕戦となるオーストラリアGPで、フェラーリのセバスチャン・ベッテルが優勝した。フェラーリの優勝は、2015年のシンガポールGP以来2年ぶり。開幕戦優勝は2010年のフェルナンド・アロンソ以来、7年ぶりとなる。

テレグラフによるとベッテルは2位でスタートしたがピットストップで逆転、ポールポジションからスタートしたメルセデスのハミルトンを10秒差の2位に抑え込んだ。
オートスポーツによると、ベッテルはレース後、「信じられない。素晴らしいグランプリだ、みんな有り難う。チームが一丸となって、寝不足も厭わずハードワークを続けてくれたお陰で、運転が非常に楽しかった」とコメントしている。
