フランス国民議会は4月3日、痩せすぎのファッションモデルの活動を禁止し、そのようなモデルを雇用した業者に最大7万5000ユーロ（約980万円）の罰金や最大6カ月の禁固刑を科す法案を可決した。ロイターなどが報じた。
フランス国内に約4万人の患者がいる「拒食症」を防ぐのが狙い。モデルには肥満度を示す指数「BMI」が、18以上であることが求められる。拒食症の容認も違法となり、商業目的で体の印象を変えるような修正を加えた画像は、その旨を注記することが義務付けられた。
時事ドットコムによると法案推進派の議員は「スリムなモデルに憧れるあまり、多くの女性が拒食症に陥っている」と問題視しており、規制を設けて改善を促すのが狙いだという。ファッション業界からは、「ほかの国のモデルとの競争に負ける」と反発の声が上がっているという。
