プロ野球・阪神タイガースは11月14日、藤川球児投手（35）と入団で合意したと発表した。アメリカ・大リーグや日本の独立リーグを経て、4シーズンぶりの阪神復帰となる。
藤川投手は球団公式サイトで、以下のようにコメントを発表した。
ただ戻ってきたとは思っていません。気持ちも体も新しくして、阪神タイガースのため、タイガースファンの皆さんのために全身全霊をかけて戦いたいと思います。
藤川投手は1998年秋に高知商業高からドラフト1位で阪神に入団。当初は主に先発だったが、2005年から中継ぎとして頭角を現し、のちにリリーフエースとして定着。阪神在籍の15年間で計42勝、220セーブをあげた。
2012年オフにフリーエージェント（FA）権を行使して大リーグのシカゴ・カブスに入団したが、けがなどもあり、大リーグでは3年間で1勝2セーブにとどまった。
2015年、テキサスレンジャーズを自由契約となり、日本に帰国。独立リーグ「四国アイランドリーグplus」の高知ファイティングドックスに入団した。
デイリースポーツによると、阪神は帰国後の2015年5月末に藤川と交渉したが、「藤川の心を動かすことができず」、藤川は独立リーグに入団。別の記事で、藤川は阪神復帰を希望したが、「（NPBでプレー）できないと言われたのが『クソー』って」と、阪神側の評価が低かったことを示唆していた。
2015年オフに就任した金本知憲新監督は、かつてのチームメートでもある藤川の獲得に興味を示していた。「決断してくれてホッとしています。球児とはこれまでも電話や直接会うなどして話をさせてもらっていたし、野球に対する熱い気持ちは伝わっていました。あのキレのあるボールをもう一度甲子園で見たいし、また同じユニフォームを着て戦えるのが楽しみです」とコメントした。
