オランダ・アムステルダムのゴッホ美術館は9月9日、ゴッホの1888年作の風景画を発見したと発表した。「ひまわり」などの傑作が描かれたゴッホ絶頂期の作品といい、24日から同美術館で公開される。時事ドットコムが伝えた。
朝日新聞デジタルによると、作品名は「モンマジュールの夕暮れ」(72センチ×93センチ＝写真)で、曲がったオークの木の茂みの向こうに、夕日が沈む様子が描かれている。フランス南部アルル近郊で1888年に描かれたもので、「ひまわり」などと同時期の作品という。
NHKニュースによると、ノルウェーの収集家が偽物だと思って、一時、屋根裏部屋に保管していたが、その後、この作品を手に入れた現在の所有者が2年前にゴッホの作品かどうか美術館に調査を依頼。使われた絵の具や変色の具合、描き方などを最新機器で調べたところ、ゴッホのものに間違いないと分かったという。ゴッホが弟のテオに宛てた手紙の中でも、この作品に言及していたという。
アクセル・リューゲル館長は「ゴッホの作品が新たに見つかるのは極めて異例。ゴッホ美術館史上最大の発見だ」と話した。
作品はノルウェーの収集家が1908年以降、所有していたが、別の画家の作品だとして長年、屋根裏に眠っていたという。同美術館は「新作品の発見は非常に珍しい」とし、今月24日から来年10月まで同美術館で展示する。
