グーグルが、アラブ首長国連邦（UAE）にある「リワ砂漠」のストリートビューを公開した。
ただしその撮影には、いつものような専用撮影車ではなく、昔ながらの着実な手段が使われた。それは、ラクダだ。
グーグルが「ラクダカメラ」を使ったのは、砂丘の地図を、より「着実な」方法で、しかも周辺の環境をできるかぎり乱さないようにしながら作成したいと考えたことが理由だという（文末に動画）。
リワ砂漠は、アラブ首長国連邦とサウジアラビアの国境近くに広がっており、いくつものオアシスが点在している。古くから遊牧民（ベドウィン）が集落を作ってデーツを栽培しており、アブダビとドバイの首長一族の祖先もかつて住んでいた場所だ。
リワ砂漠のストリートビューは、今回複数の地点が公開されたが、以下はそのひとつだ。
グーグルのストリートビューは、現在230を超える国や地域をカバーしているほか、最近では、都市の建造物や美術館、店の内部まで見られる「インドアビュー」も増えている。
