1月29日、ギリシャ中部ラリサであったプロサッカー2部リーグ、AEL（AEラリッサ）とアハルナイコスの試合で、試合開始のホイッスル直後、ピッチ上にいた両チームの選手計22人が突然、座り込んだ。イギリスのガーディアンなどが伝えた。
試合に先立ち、AELの公式サイトは声明を出し、理由を説明した。シリアなどからの難民を乗せた船がエーゲ海で多数沈没し、犠牲になった多くの子供に哀悼の意を示し、合わせて欧州連盟（EU）やトルコの「暴力的な無関心」に抗議の意を表明するためとしている。
抗議の「座り込み」は2分間で、2分後に両チームの選手たちは試合を再開した。
