羽生は冒頭の4回転ジャンプ2つを軽々と飛び、後半の4回転-3回転、3回転-1回転-3回転などの連続ジャンプも見事に成功。この日は全てのジャンプを成功させる離れ業を見せ、中継を担当していたNHKのアナウンサーも思わず「次元が違います」とコメントするほどだった。
演技のあと、羽生は「応援という大きな力をもらいました。皆さんのおかげです」とコメント。点数については、「まだ信じられていないです。スコアは本当にびっくりしましたが、ここまで、カナダからNHK杯まで、本当に血の滲むような、本当に辛い練習をしてきたので、練習をさせてくださった周りの方々、サポーターの皆さま、カナダのクリケットのリンク、生まれ育った仙台のリンク、全てに感謝したい」と話した。
そして、「緊張したんですが、長野のオリンピックがあったリンクで滑ることで、自分自身にプレッシャーをかけて、絶対王者だぞと言い聞かせてやっていた。とにかく、ここまで、すごいハードな練習をしてきましたけれども、ケガをしないでこれた自分の体、ケアしてくれた先生たちに感謝しつつ、これ以上の演技ができるよう、練習を積んでいきたい」などと語った。
