アメリカのヒラリー・クリントン前国務長官は9月14日、アイオワ州で開かれた毎年恒例の民主党のイベントで、非公式ながらも2016年の大統領選に立候補する意欲を示した。ヒラリー氏は「それについて考えているのは事実」と話したという。時事ドットコムなどが伝えた。

ヒラリー氏はまた、「私が『それ』を考えているのは確かだ」と大統領選への立候補を前向きに検討していることを示唆し、出馬表明を期待する会場を沸かせた。

ヒラリー氏は夫のクリントン元大統領と共に出席。大統領選への意欲を示したものの「今日ここに来たのは、その話をするためではない」と、11月4日に迫った中間選挙の候補者の応援に話題を切り替えた。ヒラリー氏は、再出馬するかどうかを「来年早々」に決める意向を示していた

ヒラリー氏のアイオワ州訪問は、大統領選予備選で敗れた2008年1月以来。大統領選の党候補指名争いの初戦であるアイオワ州党員集会の結果は、各州の予備選に大きな影響を与える。ヒラリー氏は2008年の大統領選で、最有力と見られながらアイオワ州の予備選でオバマ氏に敗れ、民主党の候補者レースで敗北するきっかけとなった。

このためアメリカ国内では、今回のヒラリー氏の動向を大統領選をにらんだものではないかと注目が集まっているという。

アメリカのメディアからは、大統領選挙への立候補もにらんだ動きではないかと注目が集まり、会場の支持者たちからも「立候補を見越して、もうボランティア登録を済ませた」とか、「次の大統領は彼女しかいない」などとクリントン氏に期待する声が聞かれました。
