4月30日、第二次世界大戦中のナチス・ドイツの独裁者アドルフ・ヒトラーがベルリンで自殺して、70年を迎えた。その8日後、5月8日にドイツは連合軍に対して、無条件降伏した。ヒトラーはナチスを率いて1933年に政権を奪取すると、ユダヤ人隔離政策、軍備拡大を進め、1939年、ポーランドに侵攻し第二次世界大戦の引き金を引いた。そして1945年4月30日、陥落間際になった首都・ベルリンで自殺したと見られている。
その地は今、駐車場の脇にある。イギリス紙テレグラフによればその場所の法的な所有者はおらず、わずかに歴史を伝えるプレートがあるだけだという。ネオナチとみられる人物が花束を手向けると、すぐに撤去される。
70周年を迎える30日に、セレモニーや行事は行われる予定はない。
