首都ダマスカスの郊外で、内戦中の自由シリア軍が、iPadを使って迫撃砲を撃っているというものだ。
写真から推測するに、自由シリア軍は、照準システムのない追撃砲で狙いを定める際に、「iHandy Level Free」などの、水準器（一定の物体の地面に対する角度や傾斜を確認する器具）になるiPadアプリを使っているようだ。
英国在住の兵器アナリスト、エリオット・ヒギンズ氏は「タイムズ」紙に、「こうしたアプリはここしばらく使われている」と説明している。「一部ではスマートフォンも使われている。珍しいことではない」
「これらの製品を、核兵器、ミサイル兵器、化学・生物学兵器などの開発、設計、製造、生産など、米国の法律が禁じている目的には利用しないことに同意する」
