米国のケリー国務長官は２４日、イラクとシリアの一部を支配するイスラム過激派組織「イスラム国」がイラクの治安部隊に対し塩素ガスを使用したとの報道について、政府が調査を進めていることを明らかにした。
ワシントンポスト紙はこの日、イラクの警察官１１人が塩素ガス中毒と思われる症状で前月、バグダッド北方の病院に搬送されたと報道。同紙は、イスラム国がイラクの一部を支配下に置いてからこの他に２件の塩素ガス攻撃があったとのイラク軍の報告も伝えている。
ケリー長官は記者団に対し、「化学兵器による攻撃は国際法に違反する」とし、政府として確認に努めていることを明らかにした。
同長官は、使用が確認されたとしても米国の対イスラム国掃討作戦には変更はないとしている。［ワシントン ２４日 ロイター］
