イスラエル首相が「911のハイジャック犯」に 風刺漫画に批判殺到

イスラエル人のマンガ家が、ニューヨークの世界貿易センタービルが攻撃された911テロを思い起こさせる風刺マンガをメディアに公表して批判を受けた。本人は作品を擁護している。

イスラエル人のマンガ家が、ニューヨークの世界貿易センタービルが攻撃された911テロを思い起こさせる風刺マンガをメディアに公表して批判を受けた。本人は「作品に悪意はなかった」と弁明している。

このマンガを描いたのは、イスラエルの新聞「ハアレツ」紙のアモス・バイダーマン氏。マンガでは、イスラエルのベンヤミン・ネタニヤフ首相が飛行機を操縦し、屋上にアメリカ国旗を掲げたビルに向かって飛んでいる様子が描かれている。機体の側面には「イスラエル」の文字が見える。

「ネタニヤフ氏が傲慢かつ気まぐれにイスラエルとアメリカの関係を壊し、われわれを災難に追い込んだというメッセージを表現したのです」。ハアレツ紙によると、バイダーマン氏はヘブライ語でのツイートでこう説明した。

マンガは、アメリカの匿名のある高官が、ネタニヤフ氏を“小心者”呼ばわりしたとして騒ぎになっている最中に掲載された。

今回の件では多くの人がマンガへの怒りをあらわにし、イスラエルの名誉毀損防止組合 (ADL) は謝罪を要求した。

「問題のマンガは、あらゆる意味で不快だ」。ADLのナショナル・ディレクターのアブラハム・H・フォックスマン氏は、声明でこう述べた。「アメリカ政府とネタニヤフ首相の間にあるといわれる現在の緊張関係を表現するにしても、これは完全に間違っています。それだけでなく、911テロで悲劇的に命を失った数千人もの罪なきアメリカ人たちの記憶、さらには恐るべきテロで生じた深い痛みやトラウマをも冒涜したのです」

フォックスマン氏はさらに、。あのマンガはアルカイダのテロリストが主張していた、911のテロ攻撃にまつわる陰謀論を擁護するようなものだという。彼は次のように書いた。

その上、イスラム世界では、イスラエルやユダヤ人があのテロの背後にいたという反ユダヤ主義の陰謀論が広範囲に信じられている。そんな中で、イスラエルの新聞、しかもその報道基準が広く尊敬を集めているような新聞が、あのようなひどく無礼な紋切り型の記事を政治風刺の名の下に掲載するに及んだのは、実に不愉快で、信じられないほどに無責任である。

911テロの犠牲者の遺族からも、憤りの声が上がった。

「もしこのマンガが、イスラエルが世界貿易センターに飛行機を突っ込ませたことを表しているのだとしたら、私がこれまで見た中で最もばかげた描写です」。娘をテロで亡くしたローマン・ゲーツバーグさんは、アルゲマイナー紙にこう話した。「正気の人であれば、イスラエルと、世界貿易センタービルに飛行機を突っ込ませる行為とを結び付けるはずはありません。あの悲劇的な日に起きた歴史的な事実を歪めて、政治的な意見に次々と関心を向けさせようとすることに、911テロの犠牲者の遺族は非常に不快な思いを抱いています」

ツィッター上では、ユーザーたちが「下劣だ」「あぜんとする」「ものすごく不愉快」とツイートし、マンガを厳しく非難した。

しかし、バイダーマン氏自身は、侮辱するつもりはなかったと弁明した。

「アメリカ人が911に対して抱く、非常に繊細な感情について、私は十分に意識していました」と、同氏はハアレツ紙の木曜日の取材に答え、次のように付け加えた。

私は、イスラエルが戦ったどの戦争もマンガで表現してきました。私が従軍したヨム・キプル戦争(1973年の第4次中東戦争)もそうです。あの戦争で私たちは、数千人の犠牲者を出しました。私は、作品の背景として、イスラエルの重大な悲劇を扱ってきました。最近では、いわゆるミルキー・プロテスト(ドイツでも販売されているチョコレートプリンがイスラエルでは高価であることに抗議するSNS上のキャンペーン)をからかった作品も発表していますが、それではゲシュタポ(ドイツの秘密国家警察)になぞらえているのです。911テロを想起させる絵を描くことが、こんなにも大きな嵐を巻き起こすとは、想像すらしませんでした。
