イタリア中部で8月24日未明に発生したマグニチュード(M)6.2の地震で、死者が250人以上、病院に搬送されたけが人が360人以上となり、さらに増える恐れがある。ロイターなどが報じた。

およそ200人が死亡したアマトリーチェでは、50周年を迎えるフードフェスティバルを控え、休日の行楽客で賑わっていた。地震が発生した24日の時点でどれだけの行楽客が訪れていたかは不明で、死者数の把握が困難になっている。

「まずは行方不明者の正確な数を確認しなければならない。取り残された人がいなくなるまで、私たちは中断することなく捜索を続ける」と、地元消防署の広報担当ルカ・カーリ氏は語った。

犠牲者のなかには、少なくともイギリス人3人、スペイン人1人、ルーマニア人5人の外国人が死者に含まれているとみられる。

CNNによると、地震発生から15時間後、瓦礫の下敷きになっていた10歳の少女が救出されるなど必死の捜索が続いているが、生存者の発見は時間の経過とともに難しくなっている。

震源地に最も近いアマトリーチェ市内は、あらゆる家やビルが倒壊した。この建物は女子修道院。作業員が瓦礫の撤去にあたっている

アマトリーチェに古くからある教会の塔は奇跡的に倒壊を免れた
