ソチ冬季五輪は９日、アイスホッケー女子１次リーグの試合を行い、Ｂ組の日本は初戦でスウェーデンに０─１で敗れた。
世界ランク１０位の日本は第１ピリオドに失点。その後は同６位のスウェーデンを無得点に抑えたものの、追いつくことはできなかった。
日本の五輪出場は、５戦全敗を喫した１９９８年の長野大会以来。１１日にロシア、１３日にドイツと対戦する。
