【JIBO】家族の声に反応して働く「ピクサーのロゴ」みたいなロボットをMITが開発【画像・動画】

MITのシンシア・ブリジール准教授が開発したロボット「JIBO」は、笑って、見て、話す表情豊かな「家族のアシスタント」だ。

マサチューセッツ工科大学（MIT）のシンシア・ブリジール准教授が創業したJibo.comは7月16日、家族の声に反応して笑ったり体をくねらせたりする表情豊かな家庭用ロボット「JIBO」を発表した。価格は499ドル（約5万円）。現在クラウドファンディングサイトで予約を受け付けており、2015年12月に出荷の予定だ。

一見ピクサーのロゴキャラクターのようなデザインのJIBOは、声に反応して動作するだけでなく、人の顔を認識して写真を撮ったり、メールの受信を知らせたり、スケジュールをリマインドしたり、電気のスイッチをオン・オフしたり、絵本を読み上げたりなども行うことができ、「家族のアシスタント」になると、動画で紹介されている。

笑ったり、体をくねらせたり、ハートを表示して照れたりと、表情が豊かな点が、JIBOが普通のロボットとは異なるポイントだ。

12月の発売開始時には全ての機能は搭載されないが、開発者向けのJiboも599ドルで発売され、社外のクリエーターに「創造」を委ねると、シンシアさんは話している。Wi-FiやBluetoothのネットワーク機能も対応し、iPhoneやAndroid端末などと連係できるようになる見込みだ。

JIBOはソフトバンクソフトバンクが2015年2月に約20万円で発売する「Pepper」のように、複雑な人の感情を理解するような設計はされていないが、特定の機能に絞り込んだ学習機能や人工知能（AI）はより発展させているとジブリール氏は述べている。
