［ワシントン １２日 ロイター］ - 米国防総省当局者は１２日、日本人ジャーナリスト後藤健二さんらを殺害したとみられる過激派組織「イスラム国」の黒い覆面の男、通称「ジハーディ・ジョン」を標的とした空爆をシリア北部のラッカで行ったと明らかにした。
国防総省のクック報道官は、「きょうの作戦の結果について確認作業を行っているところだ。追加の情報があれば適時公表する」と述べた。
ある匿名の米高官は、空爆でエンワジ容疑者が死亡した可能性があるが、確定するにはもう少し時間が必要だと警告した。
「ジハーディ・ジョン」の本名はモハメド・エンワジで、クウェート出身の英国人。ロンドンの裕福な家庭で育ち、大学ではコンピュータープログラムを学んだという。
昨年夏以降、イスラム国が人質を殺害したとする映像に何度も登場し、英国特有のアクセントで話していた。
