一人の男性が、現場の一つとなったバタクラン劇場の前で、ジョン・レノンの「イマジン」をピアノ演奏した。

フランスのパリで120人以上が死亡した同時テロから一夜明けた11月14日、一人の男性が、現場の一つとなったバタクラン劇場の前で、ジョン・レノンの「イマジン」をピアノ演奏した。

CNNの14日朝の現地リポートでは、ピアノの音は中継のバックミュージックとして流れた。

「ハラ・ゴラニがパリのテロをリポートしている間、誰かが近くでジョン・レノンの『イマジン』を弾いています」

ドイツのニュースサイト、Sudkurierhaによると、この男性はドイツ人ピアニストのダヴィデ・マルテロ。マルテロはTwitterで、もともとドイツの都市コンスタンツで演奏する予定だったが、パリに行くと明らかにしていた。

Klavier Kunstという名前でも活動するマルテロは、英語で以下のようにツイートした。

「パリよ、あなたに共感します。自由で平和な社会のために、ともに立ち上がりましょう」

「イマジン」はジョン・レノンが1971年に発表したソロ・アルバムのタイトル曲。平和を願う歌として、世界で最も有名な曲だ。歌詞は世界の団結と調和を問いかけ、特にナショナリストと宗教的偏見を排除するよう呼びかけた。

「想像してごらん、国家なんてない。難しいことじゃない」とレノンは歌った。

「何かのために殺したり、死んだりする必要なんてない。それが宗教のためでも。想像してごらん、みんなが平和に暮らしている姿を」

バタクラン劇場でのテロでは、少なくとも89人が犠牲になった。マルテロはこれまでも、社会的に大きな出来事の場で演奏してきた。2013年6月には、トルコ・イスタンブールで大規模な反政権デモの現場となったゲジ公園で演奏した。「私のゴールは世界中をグランドピアノと一緒に旅して、道端の人々にインスピレーションを与えることだ」と、マルテロはFacebookに書いている。

マルテロはドイツに戻ったことを、Facebookで報告した。

「みなさん、メールありがとう。無事にドイツに帰りました。24時間のドライブは疲れました。すべては私がコンスタンツのアイリッシュパブで、フランスとドイツのサッカーを見ていたことから始まりました。この正気の沙汰とは思えない暴力を目の当たりにして、私は自分の気持ちに従い、パリに行きました。私にとって、琴線に触れた最も大きな出来事の一つであり、ゆっくり休んで、この短い時間に起きたことについて考えてみたいと思います」
