ネルソン・マンデラ元大統領の追悼式、史上最大規模の式典に

12月5日に亡くなった南アフリカのネルソン・マンデラ大統領の追悼式がヨハネスブルグ市内のソウェト地区にあるFNBスタジアムで現在行われている。会場は2010年ワールドカップの閉会式が行われたスタジアムで、マンデラ元大統領が公に姿を見せた最後の場所である。

12月5日に亡くなった南アフリカのネルソン・マンデラ大統領の追悼式がヨハネスブルグ市内のソウェト地区にあるFNBスタジアムで現在行われている。会場は2010年サッカーFIFAワールドカップの閉会式が行われたスタジアムで、マンデラ元大統領が公式行事に姿を見せた最後の場所である。

追悼式には日本の皇太子さまの他、アメリカのオバマ大統領など100カ国近い各国首脳が参加するなど、史上最大規模の追悼式典となった。

ハフィントンポストでは、フランス・イギリス・イタリア版がライブブログ(リアルタイムで伝えるブログ)で伝えている。また、スペイン版では追悼式のパンフレットがダウンロードできるようにしている。その他アメリカ、カナダ、ドイツもスプラッシュ(トップ)記事で伝えている。

式典では、オバマ大統領が追悼演説を行った。要旨は以下の通り。

今日ここで、他の誰にも似ていない、一人の偉人の人生を祝えることを誇りに思う。彼の闘いは我々の闘いであり、彼の勝利は我々の勝利でもあった。彼の人生から見つけ出した、我々の威厳や希望、自由や民主主義こそが、彼の遺産だ。

マンデラ氏は、行動の力や理想の力、議論することの大切さを教えてくれた。今はマンデラ氏の死去を悼み、彼の英雄的な人生を祝福すべき時だ。同時に、自分自身に問い掛けてみる時でもある。私たちは、どれだけ彼の教訓を自分自身の人生に反映できるだろうか。

それは私自身への問いでもある。米国や南アフリカでは何世紀もの間、人種問題の克服に向けた闘いが続いてきた。新しい夜明けを待つために、無数の犠牲を必要とした。この闘いがあったから、私と妻がここにいることができるのだ。
