右ひじを痛めていたヤンキースの田中将大が9月21日、ニューヨークでのブルージェイズ戦で復帰して75日ぶりに先発登板し、6回1死までを5安打1点に抑えて13勝目を挙げた。級数は70球。4奪三振、1死球という内容だった。チームは5―2で勝利した。日刊スポーツなどが報じた。
初回、無死から連打を浴び、併殺の間に１点を先制された。しかし、２回以降は変化球を織り交ぜ、追加点を許さなかった。２－１とリードした６回表１死一、二塁となったところで交代した。７回裏、打線がダメ押しの３点を追加。救援陣がリードを守り、田中に勝ち星が付いた。（中略）防御率は２・４７。

田中は7月8日の登板後に右肘の痛みを訴えて離脱。右ひじ靱帯（じんたい）の部分断裂と診断されたが、手術は回避してリハビリを続けた。
試合後、田中は「全体的になかなかよかった。特にカーブがすごくよかったので、投球に占める割合が増えた」と振り返り、今後のことについても次のように話した。
復帰戦を勝利で飾った田中投手は、痛めていた右ひじについては、「状態を確認しながら投げていたが、けがをした７月の登板のときよりきょうのほうが全然よかったし、痛みもなかったので、イニングを重ねるごとに心配はなくなっていった。きょうはひじの状態を確認しながらも、チームの勝利を引き寄せるピッチングをしたいと思っていたが、そこはほとんどクリアできた。勝利に貢献できたのはすごくうれしい」と充実感を漂わせていました。そのうえで今後については、「あした、ひじの状態に何も問題がなければあと１試合登板すると思うが、きょう投げられたことで心配はだいぶ減るし、シーズンオフのトレーニングも問題なく、やりたいことができると思う」と話しました。
