［３日 ロイター］ - 米大リーグ（ＭＬＢ）は３日、５月の月間最優秀選手（ＭＶＰ）を発表し、アメリカン・リーグ（ア・リーグ）の投手部門で田中将大（ヤンキース）が初選出された。
田中は５月に６試合に先発して４３イニングを投げ、５勝１敗、防御率１．８８、４２三振、６四球の成績だった。規定投球回に達した先発投手のなかで田中は５月の勝利数でア・リーグ１位、防御率２位、奪三振数３位、投球回数３位タイだった。
ヤンキースでは投手が月間ＭＶＰに選出されるのは２０１３年８月のイバン・ノバ以来で、ヤンキースの新人右腕投手としては１９７９年に同賞が実施されて以来初めて。
なお日本選手が新人で同賞を受賞したのは１９９５年６月の野茂英雄投手（ドジャース）以来。
