インド・ウッタルプラデシュ州ムザファルナガルにあるカストゥルバ・ガンジー女子寄宿学校のバスルームで血痕が見つかり、女性学寮長が生徒70人に対し、生理かどうかを確認するため裸になるよう命じた。CNN系列の「ニュース18」が報じた。

生徒たちの家族は激怒し抗議した。しかしこの学寮長は「言うことを聞かないとひどい目に遭わせる」と脅すこともあったという。

「バスルームの数カ所に血がついていました。それで学寮長は私たちに服を脱ぐように言いました。みんなとても恥ずかしい思いをしました」と、ある生徒はCNNニュース18に語った。

アジアのニュースメディア「ANI」によると、与党人民党のシュリカント・シャルマ氏は関係者に対し、責任者の処分を求めている。

学寮長は停職処分を受け、「少女たちに異常がないかを確認したかっただけだ」と釈明した。しかしインドでは多くの若い女性にとって、生理の話は口に出しづらく、いまだにタブーとなっている話題だ。
