マイケル・ムーア監督は先見の明がある。ドナルド・トランプ氏の大統領当選を正確に言い当てた。トランプ氏がこの国の最高位に押し上げる力を、ムーア監督は他のジャーナリストや批評家たちより先に予見していた

大統領選挙以来、ムーア監督は、アメリカのイスラム教徒の権利国境の壁建設、そして民主主義の未来に対して、容赦なく警鐘を鳴らしている。

しかし昔から急進的なムーア監督は、じっと座って、トランプ大統領の政策でアメリカを作り変えられてしまうのを黙って見守っているつもりはない。 ハフィントンポストUS版が開催した大統領就任式の日のイベント「Watch Us Run」でムーア監督は、トランプ大統領時代に生き残るための個人的なプランをくわしく説明した。

「みなさん一人ひとりがコミットしてもらいたい。そしてもし可能なら今日から始めてもらいたい。確実に週明けの月曜日から始めてもらいたい。議会に電話して抗議する。これをみなさんの日課の一部にしてほしい」と、ムーア監督は促した。

「自分の選挙区の国会議員の連絡先を調べる必要はない」とムーア監督は付け加えた。ただ (202) 225-3121に電話して、選挙区の国会議員とを繋いでくれるように頼むだけだ。

ムーア監督はまた、トランプ大統領に抵抗するためにはユーモアと風刺を駆使して「喜劇の部隊に参加」し、そしてもちろんいつも投票するようにも促した。

「私が心配しているのは、特に若い人たちに関してだが ……この選挙で、『どうしてわざわざやるの?』『なんで投票するんだ?』『投票が大切だなんて言わないでくれよ』『Civics 101(義務教育で選挙や、陪審、税金など、一般市民が生活する上で関わる政治や行政の仕組みを学ぶ授業)のことなんかで説教しないでくれよ』という雰囲気になることだ」と、ムーア監督は語った。

ムーア監督は、トランプ氏に投票しなかった人々は大多数であることに、自信を持つべきだと考えている。

「みなさん一人ひとりが立場をはっきりさせなきゃいけない。私たちは今トランプ時代にいる」と、ムーア監督は語った。「じっと考えているだけじゃ、どっちつかずになってしまうぞ」
