アメリカの民主党支持者は、11月9日の朝を二日酔いのような気分で迎えたかもしれない。

前日に行われたアメリカ大統領選でドナルド・トランプ氏が大統領に選ばれ、同時に行われた連邦議会選挙では、上院で共和党が多数の議席を確保することになった。

そんな悪夢さめやらぬ9日の朝、映画監督のマイケル・ムーアが「一夜明けた朝のToDoリスト」をFacebookに投稿した。この、ムーアが考える「今やるべき5つのこと」が、現段階で16万人以上にシェアされている。強い言葉が、意気消沈した民主党支持者を力づけているのかもしれない。

「一夜明けた朝のToDoリスト」

1. 民主党を乗っ取ろう。そして人々の手に戻すんだ。民主党の奴らは、我々の期待に情けないほど応えられていない。

2. 評論家や予想屋、世論調査員、その他メディアの中で、自分の考えを変えず、実際に起こっていることに目を向けようとしない奴らを首にしよう。偉そうに話をしていた奴らが今、「分裂した国を癒そう」とか「一つになろう」と俺たちに言うんだ。そんなクソ発言を、奴らはこれからもずっと言い続けるだろう。黙らせよう。

3. この8年間、オバマ大統領と闘い、抵抗し、闘ってきた共和党議員のように、これから闘う気概を持って今朝目覚めなかった民主党の国会議員は出ていけ。そのかわりに、これから始まる野蛮や狂気を止められる術を知っている奴らを、俺たちのリーダーにするんだ。

4. 「驚愕の結果だ」とか「ショックだ」と嘆くのをやめよう。そんな風に言ったって、自分の世界に閉じこもって、他のアメリカ人や彼らの絶望に目を向けていないだけだ。民主党・共和党の両方に無視された人たちの、既存のシステムに対する復讐心や怒りが大きくなっている。そこに現れたのが、両方の党をぶちこわして「お前はクビだ」というテレビスターだ。トランプが勝ったのは驚きじゃない。奴はただのジョークじゃなかったんだ。そして、支持を得て強くなっている。メディアに住む生き物で、メディアが作り上げた生き物だ。メディアは決してそれを認めないだろうが。

5. 今日会う人全員に、こう言わなきゃいけない。「得票数は、ヒラリー・クリントンの方が多かったんだ!」過半数のアメリカ人は、ドナルド・トランプじゃなくてヒラリー・クリントンを選んだ。以上。それが事実だ。今朝目覚めて「自分は最低の国に住んでいる」と思ったのであれば、それは間違いだ。過半数のアメリカ人は、ヒラリーの方が良かったんだ。トランプじゃない。彼が大統領になった、ただ一つの理由は、18世紀に作られた、難解でおかしな「選挙人団」と呼ばれるシステムだ。これを変えない限り、自分が選んでない、望んでもいない奴が大統領になる。この国に住んでいる人の多数が、気候変動を信じ、女性は男性と同じ賃金を払われるべきだと考え、借金をせずに大学に行くこと、他の国に武力侵攻しないこと、最低賃金を上げること、国民皆保険に賛成している。それは何一つ変わっていない。我々は、多数が“リベラル”な考えを支持する国に住んでいる。ただ、それを実現させるリベラルなリーダーがいないのだ(#1に戻って欲しい)。
