東日本大震災の遺構として扱いが注目されていた、宮城県南三陸町の防災対策庁舎について、町は撤去する方針を固めた。佐藤仁町長が近く正式表明する。朝日新聞デジタルが報じた。

MSN産経ニュースによれば、南三陸町の防災対策庁舎は、大震災の際に津波を受けて、鉄の骨組みだけが残る状態となっていた。町職員ら42人が犠牲になった遺構を、保存するか、解体撤去するかで議論が分かれていた。

町は当初、保存する方針だったが、遺族らから「見るのがつらい」との反対の声をうけて、2011年9月に解体へ方針を転換。ところが昨年夏に、住民などから「解体の一時延期」「保存」「早期解体」という三つの異なる陳情が住民からそれぞれ提出され、再検討していると朝日新聞デジタルは報じている。

撤去費用を県に負担してもらうには今月中に申請する必要があった。現在残っている防災対策庁舎は、倒壊の危険があるうえ、保存費用を出せないと判断し、撤去を決めた。撤去で出た鉄骨の取り扱いは今後、検討するという。

震災を伝える遺構を巡っては、同県気仙沼市の市街地に打ち上げられた漁船「第18共徳丸」の解体が9月9日に始まっている
