松竹は9月25日、歌舞伎俳優の中村橋之助さん（50）が8代目「中村芝翫」（しかん）を襲名すると発表した。あわせて橋之助の長男・中村国生（19）が4代目「中村橋之助」、次男・中村宗生（17）が3代目「中村福之助」、三男・中村宜生（14）が4代目「中村歌之助」をそれぞれ襲名する。2016年10月の東京・歌舞伎座を皮切りに各地で襲名披露興行を開催する。時事ドットコムなどが報じた。
「芝翫」は成駒屋（なりこまや）にとって大切な大名跡で、7代目芝翫さんは橋之助の父。名女形として活躍し、人間国宝、文化功労者にもなったが、2011年10月、83歳で死去した。長男の中村福助（54）は2014年に、7代目中村歌右衛門を襲名することが決まっていたが、2013年11月に脳内出血で倒れ、襲名は延期となった。
橋之助さんは、1965年生まれ。本名は、中村幸二。1970年に初舞台を踏み、1980年に三代目橋之助を襲名した。テレビ・映画でも活躍し1997年のNHK大河ドラマ「毛利元就」では主役を演じた。1991年に女優の三田寛子と結婚した。
