富士山が2つ？えっ！？（画像）

これは、コラージュ画像ではない。では一体、どこで撮影されたのか？

アメリカ地質調査所（USGS）が、5月6日にFacebookに投稿した画像が話題だ。そこには、富士山が2つあるような風景が写っている。

これは、富士山ではない。アメリカ・アラスカ州のアリューシャン列島にあるフォー・マウンテンズ諸島の光景だ。向かって左がクリーブランド山、右がカーライル山。写真は2012年5月31日に、飛行機の中から撮影された。

アリューシャン列島は、火山活動によって作られた40以上の島から構成されており、国際宇宙ステーション（ISS）から撮影した写真を見ると、クリーブランド山の周辺には4つの山が連なっていることがわかる。

クリーブランド山は2013年には溶岩流が観測され、警戒レベルを上から2番目の「監視」に引き上げられた。USGSは過去1万年で160の火山が噴火しているとして、火山のモニタリングが防災に役立つと重要性を指摘している。
