11月16日投開票の沖縄県知事選で破れた現職の仲井真弘多氏は、10万票近い差をつけられた選挙結果に「思いもよらない結果となっておりますが、これもひとえに私の力不足のいたすところ。誠に申し訳ありません」と頭を下げた。

一方で「何年頑張れば、現実に危険性の除去ができるのか」と、「県外移設」との主張を覆した自らの判断が支持されなかったことに苦渋の色をにじませた。

全く想定外。全く考えてなかった結果ですね。まだ私には理由がつかめていない。結果が出てからきちんと分析させていただきたい。

Q 県内への移設を容認するとしたことについては

A 私はみじんも、公約を変えたとは一度も言っていません。県外を含むあらゆる手段でやると言ってきたんですから、行政の責任を預かる者がたった一つの方法でやるといったこともないし、公約には書いていないでしょ?普天間の一日もはやい危険性の除去と書いてある。

危険性の除去ということで、県外という方法もあるし、県内のもっと安全な場所というのもある。もしかしたら県外のほうが望ましいんだけどねというのはありうるかもしれません。

ただ、現実は、県外ということは何年頑張れば、現実に危険性の除去ができるのか。県内であってもほとんど危険のない状態に持っていく方法がないかという点の、現実的な判断。

5年以内の運用停止状態で、まず、ほとんど危険性のない状態にする。そして、基地を小さくして、辺野古に移して、そこに落ち着ける。辺野古の人も、決して「ノー」と言っているわけではないので、現実的な選択で収めないと、結局いつ解決するかの見通しがつかないではないですか。19年もこのままで来て。

Q 今後の政治活動については

A まだ全く考えていない。リアルな数字を見て、明日以降、考える。
