今年もロシアの「夏の宮殿ペテルゴフ」にて、噴水シーズンがスタートしました!毎年5月頃より春の噴水シーズンが訪れます。冬の間、この噴水は稼動を停止するのです。
この噴水シーズン開始に伴い、恒例の式典が開催されます。この式典が、ペテルゴフの観光シーズンがスタートの合図。今年は、2014年4月30日(水)からはじまります。
この「ペテルゴフ」の壮大さと構成は圧倒されるものがあります。
20の宮殿と7つの公園から成るペテルゴフの噴水
「夏の宮殿」と呼ばれるここ「ペテルゴフ」は、ロシアのサンクトペテルブルクから30kmほど移動した位置にあるフィンランド湾の南岸に位置する宮殿と庭園群です。
世界遺産にも登録されている場所だけあって、その構成のすごさには圧巻。なんと20の宮殿と7つの公園から成るのです。
ここには、「上の庭園」と「下の公園」と呼ばれるものに分かれています。
「上の庭園」は、大宮殿につながるもので、左右対称の貯水池のほか、噴水が設けられた3つの池があります。
その周囲には、並木道や果樹園、野菜畑、薬草園などが配置され、色とりどりの世界が展開。
水圧で噴水の高さが調節されているという、高度な計算と技術の賜物です。
そして大宮殿のテラスから一望できるのは「下の公園」。
「大滝」が流れ、その水が「海の運河」と呼ばれる運河となって、フィンランド湾へと注ぎ込むという設計になっています。

こんな趣向を凝らした噴水と池が、実に約150個!魚が養殖され、宮殿の食材として供給されていたところもあるそうです。
入念に作られた、噴水に大量の水を供給するシステムは、ロプシャから水路や貯水池を経由するというもの。水源は地下湖で、水門は26箇所設けられており、24時間の噴水を出し続けることも可能だといわれています。
水と緑の楽園に訪れてみる
現在、ここ「ペテルゴフ」は博物館群として公開されています。
水と緑があふれるこの「楽園」を作り上げたのは、ピョートル一世。面白いのは、これまではロシアには「噴水」という存在がなかったこと。
できた当時は、よほど珍しい光景であったに違いありません!
ピョートル一世が愛した場所といわれている、下の公園にあるモンプレジール宮殿をはじめとして、現在は、宮殿の内部が見学できるようになっているところもあります。
ペテルゴフに訪れるには、まずサンクトペルブルグ中心部の、エミルタージュ美術館へ。近くに船着場があるので、高速船に乗って宮殿「下の庭園」の桟橋まで向かいます。舟は35分ほどで着くそうです。
もう一つのルートは「上の庭園」へとつながるバスでのアクセス。地下鉄1号線Avtovo駅前から路線バス利用で約60分ほどです。
ソチオリンピックは終わってしまいましたが、ロシアの魅力は探してみると尽きないようです。
