トルコからエーゲ海を渡った後、ギリシャのレスボス島で、子供たちを抱えながら小舟から離れようともがくシリア難民の父親。

もうすぐやってくる父の日にあたって、特に注目したいのは、来る日も来る日も命がけで子供たちを守り、子供たちの安全な未来を模索する、難民の父親たちだ。

シリアやイラクなどの内戦や政情不安定により、数百万人の人々がわずかな持ち物をまとめて子供連れで逃亡している。

難民は家を離れると、途方もない困難に直面する。ヨーロッパに向かう小舟に乗り込むために密入国業者から1人当たり数千ドルを要求され、難民キャンプでは屋外の悪環境で暮らすことになり、安全な国への亡命が認められるチャンスはますます狭まっている。

そんな逆境の中、父親たちは勇気を奮い起こし続け、弱気な姿を家族に見せない。すべては、家族により良い生活をもたらすためだ。

非常に危険な状況が頻繁に発生する恐ろしい旅路の中で、子供たちを守り抜く父親の姿をとらえた心を打つ写真を紹介しよう。
