気象庁は10日、四国・東海沖と東シナ海北部の8月の平均海水温が、データがそろう1985（昭和60）年以降で最高だったと発表した。異常気象とされた今夏の猛暑が海にも影響を与えた形で、日本近海はほかの海域もすべて平年の水温を上回った。MSN産経ニュースが伝えた。
NHK NEWS WEBによると、先月1か月の平均の海水温は、九州の西の沖の東シナ海で平年より1.5度、四国・東海沖の太平洋で1.2度高く、いずれも1985（昭和60）年に統計を取り始めてから最も高くなった。
このほか、平年と比べて北日本周辺の日本海で2.1度高く、西日本周辺の日本海で2度、沖縄周辺でも0.7度から1度高く、統計を取り始めてから2番目か3番目に高くなっている。
北海道函館市近海では、海水温上昇により、捕獲したスルメイカが漁船のいけすで死ぬケースが急増している。
函館海洋気象台によると、函館近海の海水の表面温度は8月中旬、平年より約3度高い26～27度だった。漁協によると、イカは水温が23度を超えると生きられないという。
イカ漁では、港に到着するまで、漁場の海水を入れた漁船のいけすで捕獲したイカを保管。8月は全体の3～4割のイカが港に着く前に死んでしまう日もあったという。昨年も同様の現象が起こり、出荷を遅らせた。
気象庁は「海面水温は北日本の日本海では次第に平年並みに近づいているが、東日本や西日本の太平洋沖では9月上旬まで高い状態が続くと見られる」と話している。
沖縄美ら島財団は8月21日、沖縄県本部町の海洋博公園の沿岸部で、サンゴの白化現象が見つかったと発表した。水温が例年より高いことが原因とみられ、50%以上が白化していたケースもあるという。
サンゴは、細胞内に住む「褐虫藻」の光合成で生じた養分を取り込んで生きているが、海水温が上がると褐虫藻が体外に抜け出て白くなり、栄養不足で数週間後には死ぬという。
気象庁によると、沖縄周辺の広い海域で、海面水温が外洋ではこれ以上温かくならないとされる31度以上になった。沖縄南海上の8月上旬の平均海面水温は30・3度まで上昇し、世界的に大規模な白化が起きた1998年と同程度となった。
■ 海水温、海水面の上昇、極地の氷塊は地球温暖化の証拠
今月発表される国連の気候変動に関する報告書で、気温の変化だけではなく地球が温暖化していることを示す一連の証拠に焦点が絞られていることが分かっている。
アメリカ国立大気研究センターの気候分析担当上級研究員、ケビン・トレンバース氏は、極地の解氷、海水温と海水面の上昇などがいずれも地球温暖化を示していると述べた。「その水準まで行く可能性は5%。何か異例なことが起きて大規模な氷床が実際に崩落すると解氷はかなり速まる」と述べた。2100年までの海水面の実際の上昇は約25-90センチメートルの間になる可能性が高いとみている。
トレンバース氏は「気候システムの他の要因が安定しても海水面は上昇し続けるだろう」と語っている。
