インドネシアとマレーシア当局者は11日、両国沖で約1400人のイスラム系少数民族ロヒンギャ族が保護されたことを明らかにした。ロヒンギャ族はミャンマーで抑圧されている。

インドネシアとマレーシア当局者は5月11日、両国沖で約1400人のイスラム系少数民族ロヒンギャ族が保護されたことを明らかにした。インドネシアでは10日にも漂流船に乗ったロヒンギャ族約600人が発見されたばかり。ロヒンギャ族は、ミャンマーの解決の糸口が見えない民族対立の中で追い詰められている。時事ドットコムなどが報じた。

マレーシアの警察当局者によると、マレーシア北西部ランカウイ島沖で、3隻の船に乗ったミャンマーとバングラデシュのロヒンギャ族1018人が確認された。人数はさらに増える見通し。

一方、インドネシアの救難当局は11日、アチェ州東部沖で400人を発見。アチェ沖では10日にも漂流船が発見され、乗っていた男性は地元メディアに「迫害を逃れるためミャンマーから船に乗った。マレーシアに行く予定だったが、燃料が切れ漂流した」と訴えている。

ロヒンギャ族は、ミャンマー西部のラカイン州北部に住むイスラム系少数民族。人口は約80~100万人。仏教徒が多いミャンマーで差別的扱いを受けており、迫害から逃れて職を得るためインドネシアやタイなどの周辺国に脱出するケースが後を絶たない。

保護された人たちの中には、病気で衰弱しているため治療が必要な人もいるという。

国連によると、ミャンマーなどから船で出国を図ろうとしたロヒンギャ族は、2015年1月~3月の間、前年2014年の同じ時期の倍近い2万5000人に上るとみられる。
