ロシアの野党指導者で、プーチン政権に批判的なボリス・ネムツォフ氏が2月28日未明、モスクワの中心部クレムリンの近くで何者かに射殺された。ロイターなどが報じた。
BBCによると、警察の発表で容疑者は特定されていないが、車内からネムツォフ氏の背中に4発の銃弾を浴びせたという。ネムツォフ氏はクレムリンが見える橋をわたっているところだった。

ネムツォフ氏は、3月1日にモスクワで行われるウクライナでの戦闘に反対するデモ行進への支持を訴えた数時間後に暗殺された。
AP通信によると、ネムツォフ氏はエリツィン大統領時代に第一副首相を務めたが、プーチン氏が大統領に就任して以降は野党に回り、一貫してプーチン大統領の政策を批判していた。

ロイターによると、プーチン大統領は今回の事件を強く非難し、大統領令を発して捜査にあたることを表明した。またプーチン大統領は今回の事件を「何者かの指示による殺人」ではないかと指摘し、ネムツォフ氏が日曜日に予定していた抗議デモへの「挑発」だと述べた。
