People react as they march past foreign journalists and the stand with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a military parade marking the 105th birth anniversary of the country\'s founding father Kim Il Sung, in Pyongyang, April 15, 2017. The float in the background is a stylised rocket artillery launcher, adorned with the words âPyongjin Lineâ on its front. Pyongjin refers to a relatively recent North Korean policy which stresses the dual pursuit of economic and nuclear development. The globe on the side of the float features doves, a symbol of peace, but is flanked by North Korean missile designs, including the recently tested âPukkuksongâ submarine-launched ballistic missile. People react as they pass in front of the stand with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a military parade marking the 105th birth anniversary of country\'s founding father Kim Il Sung, in Pyongyang April 15, 2017. The man on the far left is dressed in construction gear, and is holding the flag of the ruling Workersâ Party of Korea. Kim Jong Un has emphasised construction and raising living standards since coming to power in December, 2011, and the Pyongyang skyline has slowly changed as a result. Beyond the projects touted by state media, however, construction standards can sometimes be poor. In 2014, the government issued a rare apology after a partially-built apartment building collapsed, killing scores of people. The children are wearing the red neckerchiefs typical of the âYoung Pioneersâ within Soviet states, or countries like North Korea which once sat within the former Soviet Unionâs political and cultural sphere of influence.
