イギリス・マンチェスターのコンサート会場であった自爆テロ事件では、8歳の子どもが亡くなったほか、負傷者にも大勢の若者や子どもたちが含まれていた。テリーザ・メイ首相は5月23日、記者会見で「無邪気な子どもたちを意図的に標的にしたものだ」と強調した

■負傷者59人のうち12人が子どもだった

事件は5月22日、マンチェスターの中心部にある屋内競技場「マンチェスター・アリーナ」で発生した。若者に大人気のアメリカの歌手、アリアナ・グランデさん(23)のコンサートが終了した直後、大きな爆発が起きて22人が死亡、59人が負傷した。

テレグラフなどは、救助にあたった救急本部の発表として、59人の負傷者のうち12人が16歳以下の子どもだったと報じている。

■最初に判明した犠牲者は18歳の女の子

ガーディアンによると、最初に判明した死亡者は、ランカシャー州の18歳、ジョージナ・カランダーさんだった。グランデさんの熱狂的なファンで、彼女は、一緒に撮影した写真をInstagramにアップロードし、コンサート前日には「明日会えるのが楽しみ!」とTwitterでもメッセージを送っていた。

■8歳の女の子も犠牲に

身元が判明した死亡者の中で最年少だったのは、ランカシャー州の8歳の小学生の女の子、サフィー・ローズ・ルーソスさん。母親と20代の姉と参加しており、2人も負傷している。

彼女が通っていたタールトン小学校の教諭は「サフィーの死は私たちにとって非常に衝撃的な出来事だった。彼女の家族や友達に哀悼の意をささげたい」とコメントしている。

■行方不明の子を探す親たち

事件の現場周辺では、行方がわからなくなった子どもたちを夜通し探す親たちの姿が見られた。また、SNS上は、子どもたちの写真をアップロードするなどして、少しでも目撃情報を集めようとする人々の投稿で溢れた。

行方不明になっている15歳のオリビア・キャンベルさんを探すため、Twitter上で協力を呼びかけるボーイフレンドの父親。

■「一般の人々が耐えられないと感じる標的への攻撃」

AFP通信の取材に対して、フランスの情報機関、対外治安総局(DGSE)の元職員、イブ・トロティニョン氏は、今回の事件は、2016年にフランスのニース近郊などで起きたトラックによる襲撃事件と、攻撃対象の点で類似していると指摘している。

トロティニョン氏は「今回の事件でとても衝撃的だったのは、攻撃されたターゲットだ。治安を守る当局は、通常、一般の人々が耐えられないと感じる標的への攻撃を恐れている」と分析した。
