パキスタンで最悪のテロ攻撃の1つとなった事件を生き延びた生徒たちが、大量虐殺の舞台となった学校へ戻ってきた。しかし、教師とクラスメートたち150人の姿はもうない。

学校が再開された初日、10代のタルハ・マニール・パラチャさんが投稿した写真には、彼らの死がはっきりと映し出されている。

以前の写真にはパラチャさんが3人の友人たちと一緒に写っている。1月12日、パラチャともう1人の生徒がこの写真を再現したが、ぽっかりと空いた空間には2人の友だちが立っているはずだった。

バズフィード・ニュース」によると、以前の写真の左から2番目に立つのはラフィク・バンガッシュさん、一番右はムハンマド・ヤセンさんで、2人ともタリバンの攻撃で殺害された。

14歳だったヤセンさんはクリケットと車と写真が大好きで、「相棒のようだった」と彼のイギリス人の従兄弟はデイリー・メール紙に語った。

バングラデシュの家族たちは彼を偲んでFacebookのページを立ち上げ、ページは1万以上の「いいね!」を集めている。

2014年12月16日、タリバンの銃撃犯は軍が運営するペシャワールの学校を襲撃し、教室には死体が転がり、パキスタン中が恐れおののいた。

タリバンは子供たちを標的にしたが、生存者たちは1月12日、暴力に対し強い意志を示した。襲撃で重傷を負った15歳のアフメッド・ナワズさんは、学校に戻り戦闘員たちに「僕たちはお前たちを恐れはしない」というメッセージを送るとAP通信に語った。
