グラミー賞受賞歌手テイラー・スウィフトさんが、ニューヨークのMemorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (メモリアル・スローンケタリング・がんセンター) を訪問し、入院患者をお見舞いした。
当初は小児がん病棟で1時間過ごす予定だったが、最終的に5時間近く病院で過ごした。テイラーさんは患者ひとりひとりと対面し、患者とその家族、友人らはその優しさに感激した。
移植後リンパ増殖性疾患を持つシェルビー・ハフ（Shelby Huff）さんをお見舞いした際には、約20分にわたりおしゃべりをした。ハフさんの母親はこの特別な日を振り返り、FacebookページのShelby's Journey With Very Severe Aplastic Anemia (重度の再生不良性貧血を持つシェルビーの闘病記) にその時の様子を投稿した。
テイラー・スウィフトさんは、さらに一緒に写真を撮ることを持ちかけた。
また、ハフさんのFacebookページの別の投稿によると、テイラー・スウィフトさんの訪問が特別な副作用をもたらしたという。今回の訪問についてハフさんは祖父にこう説明している。「でも看護師さんは『大丈夫、テイラーさんが病院に来るのを待っている間、みんなの血圧も上がっているから』だって!」
テイラー・スウィフトさんは、2013年のmost charitable celebrity (最も慈善の精神を持つ有名人) に選ばれており、今年も社会に対して奉仕する活動を継続しているようだ。
