［パリ ８日 ロイター］ - テニスの四大大会第２戦、全仏オープンは８日、パリのローランギャロスで男子シングルス決勝を行い、世界ランク１位で第１シードのラファエル・ナダル（スペイン）が第２シードのノバク・ジョコビッチ（セルビア）を３─６、７─５、６─２、６─４で退け、史上初の５連覇、通算９回目の優勝を成し遂げた。四大大会制覇は通算１４回目。
ナダルは序盤こそ調子が上がらなかったものの、第２セットでサービスブレークに成功すると、その後は優位に進めた。日差しが強く、ジョコビッチもプレーの質が落ちた。
全仏オープンでの記録を６６勝１敗としたナダルは「このような試合ではすべてのポイントが重要。ジョコビッチには４連敗していたので、チャレンジだった」とコメント。９回目の優勝は「信じられないようなことで、感情的になる」と喜んだ。
生涯グランドスラムを逃したジョコビッチは「すべてを尽くしたが、トロフィーには手が届かなかった。しかし勝つまで挑み続ける」と雪辱を誓った。
