アメリカのプロレス団体「WWE」が4月2日に開催した最大の大会「レッスルマニア33」で、WWEのスーパースター（WWEではプロレスラーのことをこう呼ぶ）のひとり、ジ・アンダーテイカーが引退を発表した。
1984年のデビュー以来、数十年もの間WWEマットを中心に活躍し、レッスルマニアでは1度しか敗北したことのないアンダーテイカーがロマン・レインズに敗北した後、アンダーテイカーはマント、手袋、帽子を脱いでリングの真ん中に置き、アリーナを後にした。
レッスルマニア33は、「地獄の墓掘り人」「デッドマン」などの異名をとった、WWEを代表するプロレスラーの引退発表で幕を閉め、会場は感傷的なムードが漂った。

最高のレスラーだった…
その夜、最後の試合でロマン・レインズが「デッドマン」を破った。ここ数年は戦績がふるわず、怪我も絶えなかったことから、アンダーテイカーが引退を考えているという噂は数か月にわたって囁かれていた。レッスルマニア33に先立ち、フォーブスに掲載された記事によると、レインズがこの伝説のレスラーのキャリアに終止符を打つのではないかと言われていた。
